Identities for institutions of consequence
We design as one designs an investiture: with seal, sigil, and order. Marks for foundations, banks, universities, and houses with charters older than us.
Knell is a ceremonial brand studio for institutions of consequence. We mark, seal, and proclaim. Charters take twelve weeks; reputations take twelve generations.
We hold a register of fewer than 70 commissions. Below — the charters on the desk, the cabinet of seals, and the bench at work in the brass shop.
A 1907 foundation re-chartered for its second century. Identity, ceremonial signage, and a bell-bronze seal installed in the entrance hall. Adopted in full by the trustees.

Long-form publication design with the ceremony of a folio: vellum endpapers, brass corners, and the year set in cap height 64mm.
Spatial signage, ceremonial vitrines, and architectural lettering. Cast bell-bronze, etched stone, etched glass.
We are not against agencies. We are against the engagement that ends in a deck. Below, the chambers in plain English.
“Knell delivered our identity in a hand-bound charter, with a brass seal pressed into the cover. We have used the wordmark on every public document for nine years.”
“The studio approached us as one approaches a parliament. We were treated, deservedly, as an institution. The work has the same gravity.”
“Most studios design for now. Knell designs for the next chancellor. Our brand outlasted my tenure, which is the only test that matters.”
Pricing is plain. Each commission begins with a charter and ends with a folio. Stewardship continues annually until the chancellor stands down.
Answered plainly. The chambers reply within two days, by post or by mail.
Foundations, banks, universities, learned societies, and the occasional municipality. If you have a charter, we will read it.
Two charters remain in MMXXVI. We respond to every petition, including those we politely return.
